Our Sleeping Beauty

From the time Sadie was about 10 months, she started sleeping through the night. Even though this seems like it would've been a miserable first 10 months (waking up every couple of hours)with this little person, there was a perk that went along with this.  Once she began sleeping through the night, we could lay her down (while she was awake), put on her light show, put in her binky, and she was out like a light.  She didn't want to be rocked, she just wanted "Elmo-binky".  Night time was easy until we decided to take away the binky, but after a week she was fine.

Well as the saying goes, "all good things must come to an end".  We decided just before she turned two that she needed a big girl bed.  Actually she wanted a big girl bed!  She saw a Dora bed one day when she and I were shopping.

Sadie: Sadie want it Dora bed.
Me: But you are still my baby :(
Me: (Sigh) it does look comfortable.
Sadie: Sadie need it.

A Dora bed was not what I had in mind.  I was thinking something white and canopy.  I was also thinking about this perfect little sleeper that has never tried to climb out of bed and why ruin a good thing.

...she was also so excited about the idea of a big girl bed.

So after searching several stores, we finally found a good compromise.  A Princess canopy bed!
After our long search we were finally home and of course Sadie wanted Daddy to put her bed together...
(He looks like he is really trying to figure it out!)
and of course Sadie wanted to help!
This is where Sadie helped by dropping her little screwdriver down the hollow leg of the bed.
While Sadie and her Daddy where putting her new bed together, I was taking the baby bed apart.  At first I was really busy trying to get it down before they got the bed done...and then it hit me...she's not going to be a baby any more.  That was rough!
Sadie loved her new bed!
She just loved it, until...we told her it was time to go to sleep.
Then all of the sudden this fabulous new bed became "scary" and I was wishing that I hadn't taken down the baby bed.
Her Daddy tried to show her that it wasn't scary.  Yes, her jammies changed, no this wasn't a different night.  While trying to get her to lay down, she needed a drink of water, which spilled on her and she had to change.  Such a long night!  I can't believe my husband fits in a toddler bed!  This is amazing to me since it seems like I never have any room in our Queen size bed! I will remind him of this later when I'm sleeping on the edge!
Sadie finally went to sleep and we carried her into bed.

The next night, I laid beside her on the floor until she fell asleep.  Each night after that I would lay on the floor beside her but I would be further away.  By the fourth night I was almost on our (mine and Dustin's) side of the room but not quite.  She got out of her bed and put her cover on me (while I pretended to sleep) and then she crawled back in her own little bed.

My hope is that I will eventually be so close (on the floor) to our bed, that Sadie will just let me go to bed (without a fight) instead of insisting that I sleep on the floor.

Luckily she still goes to sleep pretty quickly.  She probably falls asleep within the first 15 minutes, but I wouldn't know because I fall asleep within the first 10 minutes.
